FINAL FANTASY SOUNDTRACK
La colonna sonora è sempre stata importante in Final Fantasy ed
è stato il grande Nobuo Uematsu a comporre la maggior parte dei motivi musicali che ben
conosciamo. Questo musicista, nato il 21 Marzo 1959 a Kochi City, è diventato
famosissimo in Giappone dove ha cominciato a suonare il piano all'età di 12
anni. Frequentò l'università di Kanagawa e a 22 anni entrò a far parte di una
band. Solo più tardi decise di spedire le sue prime composizioni ad alcune radio
giapponesi. Nel 1985 un amico di Nobuo fece in modo che il musicista entrasse a
far parte della compagnia Squaresoft, nella quale lavorava. È così che Uematsu
iniziò a scrivere musica per la serie Final Fantasy e per altri giochi. Da giovane voleva diventare bravo quanto il pianista che
ammirava, Elton John, benché sia stato soprannominato il John Williams del mondo
dei videogiochi.
 La canzone "Eyes on Me", motivo portante di Final Fantasy VIII, ha vinto il
"Best Western Style Music Award" nel Marzo 2000. La stessa "Eyes on Me" ha
venduto più di 400mila copie nel paese d'origine.
Nel 2003 Uematsu ha formato, insieme ad altri musicisti (Arata Hanyuda,
Kenichiro Fukui, Tsuyoshi Sekito, Keiji Kawamori e Michio Okamiya), un gruppo
chiamato "The Black Mages", con l'intento di riarrangiare in chiave hard rock i
brani più famosi tratti dalle colonne sonore dei vari Final Fantasy.
Nobuo Uematsu è stato il compositore ufficiale della Square fino al 1° Novembre
2003, giorno in cui ha lasciato la software-house e ha fondato una società
propria: la "Smile Please", che si occupa di scrivere musica per varie case
videoludiche, tra cui la Square-Enix stessa.
La colonna sonora di Final Fantasy X-2 è stata quindi affidata a due
nuovi compositori, Noriko Matsueda e Takahito Eguchi (già compositori della
musica di "The Bouncer").
L'OST di Final Fantasy XI è opera di Nobuo Uematsu, Naoshi Mizuta e Kumi
Tanioka (la musica dei vari expansion packs, invece, è firmata esclusivamente da
Mizuta).
Per quanto riguarda Final Fantasy XII, Nobuo Uematsu ha scritto insieme
ad Angela Aki "Kiss Me Goodbye", il tema principale del gioco. Il resto della
colonna sonora è opera di Hitoshi Sakimoto, ad eccezione di alcuni brani ("Pray",
"Victory Fanfare", "Chocobo", "Clash on the Big Bridge" e "Hope").

Aria di Mezzo Carattere
Questo bellissimo brano (un'aria, appunto, ovvero una melodia eseguita da un
solista) è cantato in Final Fantasy VI da Celes, quando si trova ad impersonare
Maria all'Opera House. Il testo originale è stato scritto in italiano ed è una
prova di quanto Uematsu apprezzi lo stile musicale occidentale, ed in particolar
modo la musica classica.

Questo motivo esprime la terribile ira di Sephiroth durante la battaglia finale
in Final Fantasy VII. Inoltre viene ripreso in Kingdom Hearts, durante la
battaglia con Sephiroth stesso nell'arena del Monte Olimpo, durante la Coppa di
Platino.

di Laguna e Raine, poi di Squall e Rinoa. Il motivo è marcato diverse volte
durante il corso del gioco e cantato da Faye Wong durante una sequenza
all'interno del Lagunarock, nonché durante il filmato finale.

Nota:
Esistono due diverse versioni inglesi di "Real Emotion" e "1000 Words". Il
motivo è semplice: in teoria Koda Kumi, essendo la cantante di entrambe le
canzoni, avrebbe dovuto doppiare in inglese il personaggio di Lenne anche nella
versione americana del gioco. Data però la sua pronuncia inglese non perfetta
(in effetti basta sentire la sua versione di "1000 Words", per accorgersi subito
del suo accento giapponese), i temi principali di FFX-2 sono stati affidati alla
cantante americana Jade from Sweetbox. Il testo della canzone "1000 Words"
interpretata da Jade è praticamente identico a quello della Kumi; si possono
riscontrare però alcune piccole differenze per quanto riguarda alcuni versi
della canzone; tali differenze hanno portato ad una leggera modifica della
melodia (cantata da Jade dura infatti un minuto in più rispetto alla versione
della Kumi) e di conseguenza ad un adattamento del filmato del concerto, che
differisce quindi leggermente da quello della versione giapponese del gioco.
